🧭 ¿Qué es el ciclocross y cómo surgió?
El ciclocross es una modalidad de ciclismo que se corre en circuitos cerrados con terrenos mixtos (barro, arena, césped, obstáculos naturales y artificiales). Los ciclistas deben bajarse de la bici para sortear barreras, lo que exige potencia, técnica y estrategia.
📌 Orígenes: El ciclocross nació a principios del siglo XX como una forma de entrenamiento para ciclistas durante el invierno, cuando las carreteras eran menos accesibles. Este entrenamiento evolucionó hasta convertirse en un deporte por derecho propio, caracterizado por su alta exigencia técnica y física.
📌 Circuitos: Tienen entre 2,5 y 3,5 km, con tramos de carrera a pie, saltos y curvas técnicas, combinando elementos del ciclismo de montaña, de ruta y de carrera a campo a través.
📌 Temporada: Se disputa principalmente entre octubre y febrero, con la Copa del Mundo como máxima competición.
📍 Benidorm y su apuesta por el ciclocross
Desde 2023, Benidorm forma parte del calendario UCI de forma destacada, ofreciendo una propuesta diferente:
- Turismo deportivo de invierno, perfecto para combinar competición y vacaciones.

Benidorm no se detiene. En diciembre de 2025, presentó oficialmente su candidatura para organizar el Campeonato del Mundo de Ciclocross en 2031, con el apoyo de la RFEC, la Generalitat Valenciana y la Diputación de Alicante.

🧭 What is cyclocross and where does it come from?
Cyclocross is a form of cycling raced on short, closed circuits featuring mixed terrain — mud, sand, grass, steep slopes and both natural and artificial obstacles. Riders frequently have to dismount and carry their bikes, making it one of the most demanding and tactical disciplines in cycling.
📌 Origins: Cyclocross began in the early 20th century as a way for road cyclists to stay fit during the winter months, when roads were harder to use. Over time, it evolved into a fully-fledged sport in its own right, known for its extreme technical and physical demands.
📌 Circuits: Courses are typically 2.5 to 3.5 km long and include running sections, barriers, tight corners and technical features, blending elements of road cycling, mountain biking and cross-country racing.
