UN POCO DE HISTORIA
El ciclocross, una emocionante disciplina del ciclismo que combina resistencia, habilidad y espíritu aventurero, está ganando una popularidad sin precedentes. Este deporte desafía a los ciclistas con terrenos variados y condiciones climáticas adversas, cautivando tanto a deportistas como a aficionados. La celebración de la Copa del Mundo de Ciclocross en Benidorm, que albergará la antepenúltima manga de su su edición 2024-2025 el 19 de enero de 2025, ha elevado aún más el perfil de esta modalidad, atrayendo audiencias de todo el mundo y destacando su creciente importancia en el panorama ciclista internacional.
¿CÓMO SURGIO EL CICLOCROSS?
Con orígenes a principios del siglo XX, el ciclocross nació como una forma de entrenamiento para los ciclistas en temporada baja, cuando las carreteras eran menos accesibles. Este entrenamiento en terrenos complejos y desafiantes evolucionó hasta convertirse en un deporte por derecho propio, caracterizado por su alta exigencia técnica y física. Las competiciones se desarrollan en circuitos cerrados de entre 2,5 y 3,5 km, con obstáculos tanto naturales como artificiales, combinando elementos del ciclismo de montaña, de ruta y de carrera a campo través.
BENIDORM Y EL CICLOCROSS
Desde su regreso a España en 2022, tras más de una década sin eventos de la Copa del Mundo, Benidorm se ha consolidado como un escenario destacado para el ciclocross. La ciudad, con su impresionante entorno y competiciones de alto nivel, ha reforzado su posición en el calendario ciclista internacional, ofreciendo un espectáculo único tanto para los participantes como para el público.
PROGRAMA PARA ESTE FIN DE SEMANA
El fin de semana del 18 y 19 de enero estará lleno de acción en Benidorm con la celebración de importantes eventos de ciclocross, incluyendo entrenamientos oficiales, carreras de alto nivel y ceremonias protocolarias. El sábado 18 comenzará con la inspección del recorrido de la UCI a las 10:00, seguida por entrenamientos oficiales y competiciones de nivel nacional que se extenderán hasta las 16:25. Además, los ciclistas podrán confirmar sus inscripciones entre las 16:00 y las 17:00.
El domingo 19 de enero será el día clave, con una programación que incluye entrenamientos y competiciones en distintas categorías: juvenil masculina y femenina, Sub23 masculina, élite femenina y masculina. La acción comenzará a las 8:30 con los entrenamientos oficiales y culminará con la carrera élite masculina a las 15:10. Tras cada competición, se celebrarán ceremonias protocolarias para premiar a los ganadores, destacando el nivel competitivo y la emoción de este evento. Un fin de semana imperdible para los amantes del ciclocross.

Del 9 al 17 de enero, el Espai d’Art del Ayuntamiento de Benidorm acogerá la exposición ‘El arte del ciclocross’, una muestra que celebra la conexión entre deporte y arte con motivo de la Copa del Mundo de Ciclocross. La exposición, creada por el exciclista y artista setabense Miguel Soro, estará abierta durante estos días y permitirá a los visitantes descubrir cómo se plasma la esencia de este deporte en sus obras.
Si eres fan del ciclismo o simplemente te gusta el arte, esta exposición es una parada obligatoria. Es una forma diferente y creativa de calentar motores antes de la gran cita del ciclocross en Benidorm.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Cyclocross, an exhilarating cycling discipline that combines endurance, skill, and an adventurous spirit, is experiencing unprecedented popularity. This sport challenges cyclists with varied terrains and adverse weather conditions, captivating both athletes and enthusiasts alike. The Cyclocross World Cup in Benidorm, hosting the penultimate round of its 2024-2025 edition on 19 January 2025, has further elevated the profile of this discipline, attracting audiences from across the globe and highlighting its growing significance in the international cycling scene.
HOW DID CYCLOCROSS BEGIN?
With its origins in the early 20th century, cyclocross was born as a way for cyclists to train during the off-season, when roads were less accessible. This training on complex and challenging terrains evolved into a sport in its own right, characterised by high technical and physical demands. Competitions take place on closed circuits ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 km, featuring both natural and artificial obstacles, blending elements of mountain biking, road cycling, and cross-country racing.
BENIDORM AND CYCLOCROSS
Since its return to Spain in 2022, after more than a decade without World Cup events, Benidorm has established itself as a key venue for cyclocross. The city, with its stunning surroundings and high-level competitions, has strengthened its position on the international cycling calendar, offering a unique spectacle for both participants and spectators.
FULL PROGRAM
The weekend of 18 and 19 January promises to be action-packed in Benidorm, with a series of major cyclocross events, including official training sessions, high-level races, and awards ceremonies. Saturday, 18 January, kicks off with the UCI course inspection at 10:00, followed by official training sessions and national-level competitions running until 16:25. Cyclists will also have the opportunity to confirm their registrations between 16:00 and 17:00.
Sunday, 19 January, is set to be the main event, featuring a programme packed with training sessions and competitions across various categories: junior men and women, Under-23 men, elite women, and elite men. The action begins at 8:30 with official training and culminates in the elite men’s race at 15:10. After each competition, awards ceremonies will honour the winners, showcasing the high level of competition and excitement this event brings. A weekend not to be missed for cyclocross enthusiasts!
